INTERVIEW WITH SOZOU

Interview with Sozou

Written by daniel on 8. August 2006 16:05

Soheill 'Sozou' Deriss is one of the world's most well-known cs-moviemakers,with movies like "Norslund", "Odolinski Chapter 2 " and "Hard Clan - Die Hard" he's had hundreds of thousands of downloads.

Hello Sozou, could you please introduce yourself to our readers that might not know of you?
Greetings to the new community! I'm a Motion/Graphic Designer living in Stockholm who is known in the CS community as a CS movie editor.

Norslund

So what are you up to these days?
I've graduated from the school, Hyper Island. Been taking it easy most of the summer, but now I'm concentrating on working.

Your movie 'Hard Clan - Die Hard' became a huge success and many would argue that it was far ahead of it's time. What do you think made Hard Clan such a huge success?
One of the first movies containing an inspiring intro with a fast paste gameplay. Although I doubt that will work now a days considering most of the movies mimic the ingredient which now is boring.

What compelled you to start making movies and why did you choose to work with CS?
I got started getting interested in telling stories in the year 2000. At that time I played a lot of CS and thought that it would be an experience to make a CS movie and see how it turns out. As I released my first movie "Norslund"? I grasped the CS scene's attention.

What do you think is the most important quality to have as a moviemaker?
Not being afraid of trying new ways of making movies. Be open-minded. Add creativity to your work.

Odolinski Chapter 2

Do you plan to get back into the CS movie scene one day?
I doubt it. If I do, you'll notice it.

What's your own best respectively worst quality as a moviemaker?
Hard to get inspiration. When I do, it turns out good.

If you were given unlimited resources to create anything you wanted, what would you create?
A sun chair that has a built-in catapult and a bungee cord attached to the chair and to the human sitting in it. Whenever you are at the beach and sitting in the chair and it's too hot to move. You just pull the catapult lever and off you go flying into the water and the bungee cord stretches you back into your seat. Make sure to aim the chair towards the water…

Hard Clan - Die Hard

What would be your tip for the newcomers of the scene?
Play around in various programs and get to know your tools. It's not the visual effect that makes a movie a good movie, it's the Idea/Concept. Don't mimic others work. Combine two old Ideas, and you'll get a new Idea.

Any shout-outs you'd like to give?
Shoutout to Style production, Good luck with the community.
